Winner's Circle
If anyone ever needed proof that dreams sometimes do come true, look no further than Wimbledon 2004, as won by the outstandingly talented Maria Sharapova.

The shapely Siberian superstar, blessed with "girl next door" good looks, a thunderous serve, steely-eyed determination and an unshakeable belief in her ability, then backed that up with a cluster of other titles, including what is widely regarded as the fifth Grand Slam title, the season-ending WTA Tour Championships, complete with its $US 1m purse for taking out the tournament.

As well as her fearless tennis prowess and eye-catching looks, two things about Maria stand out for me - her level-headedness, and, because you really feel you're sharing the occasion with her, the sheer joy she displays in moments of triumph, of which I sincerely hope there will be many more.
