Finished fifth at the FIFA Club World Cup Finals in the United Arab Emirates in December 2009.

To achieve this, ACFC recorded a 2-0 victory over the host nation's champions, Al Ahli, and a last-minute 3-2 victory over African champions TP Mazembe, of DR Congo. Both are professional clubs, while Auckland City FC is an amateur team.

Was also named 2009 Oceania Football Confederation Player of the Year in June 2010.

Was a starting member of the All Whites' line-up in all three matches the national team contested at the FIFA World Cup Finals in South Africa, recording draws against Slovakia (1-1), holders Italy (1-1) and Paraguay (0-0) in their three group matches to bow out of the tournament with an unbeaten record.

On the night the All Whites qualified for the Finals, in November 2009, he became the most capped player in New Zealand's history as he made his 65th appearance for his country against Bahrain in Wellington. He now has 71 caps to his name.

Ivan's efforts in South Africa attracted the attention of Chinese professional club Shenzhen Ruby, who secured Ivan's services on a short-term contract during the later months of 2010.
