Inter-provincial competition, the trophy being donated in 1891 by Mr Robert Brown.
Was recognised as the premier inter-provincial trophy until 1926, and the introduction of the FA Trophy.
From 1909, it was held on a challenge basis until 1945.
Was held on a knockout basis between 1946 and 1964, and resumed life as a challenge trophy from 1965 until 1997.
In 1998, a one-off league competition was held in a short-lived attempt to revive interest in the trophy, but the final title-deciding round was abandoned due to inclement weather, and was never rescheduled!!
