28th Birthday Tribute
The Football Ferns' Number Eleven
- A Tribute To Kirsty Yallop
by Jeremy Ruane
A wee ditty to mark the 28th birthday of one of my footballing inspirations
She's the heartbeat of our midfield
A human dynamo
When Kirsty Yallop's on the prowl
All fears are with our foe.

Tenacious in the tackle,
Her engine is immense.
And when it comes to scoring goals
She's deadly from distance.

Two features of her passing
Are its range and quality
Many's the goal which has been scored
Via a through ball from Kirsty.

Though she's a drop-dead-gorgeous blonde
With well toned and tanned physique,
Don't be fooled by her good looks -
Our Kirsty's tough as teak!

She knows every single trick in the book,
Particularly the "dark arts".
You mess with KY on the park,
You'll end up on your ar**!

And yet, she's such an angel
Away from the field of play.
Her sense of fun and killer smile
Will brighten any day.
Nothing's ever too much trouble
For this footballing dame.
She epitomises all that's good
About "the beautiful game".

Dealing with her's been my pleasure
Now, for many, many years.
She's a credit to her parents
And a benchmark for her peers.

She made her name with Lynn-Avon
And, of course, the Football Ferns.
Every time she wears her NZ shirt
Her inner pride fiercely burns.

For she's a dead proud Kiwi
Who now plays for Vittsjo
In the Swedish Damellsvenskan -
Yes, KY's a real live pro!

She's worked hard for the rewards
Which are now coming her way.
I hope she garners many more
Before calling it a day.

That time's a long way off, I hope -
She's a year past twenty-seven,
Is our midfield colossus, Kirsty Yallop,
The Football Ferns' number eleven.
