 The sight of Anna Chakvetadze (above) lying spreadeagled and unconscious on the court after collapsing in a match against Caroline Wozniacki in Dubai shocked the tennis world.
The attractive 22-year-old Russian has long been a promising and popular player on the WTA circuit, but it is feared that after this collapse, and another at Indian Wells, her career may well be cut short by illness. She has been diagnosed as having vasovagal syncope, a temporary loss of consciousness associated with a fall in blood pressure, something which would undoubtedly impact on her ability to perform in hot conditions. Here's hoping she makes a full recovery.
