Martina Hingis

The Biggest Smile In Tennis!   click the pic

Martina Hingis - the thinking man's tennis player who, for mine, will always rank as the best all-round performer on the circuit.

Anyone can play the power game which is so prevalent today, but it’s the subtlety and guile which “Super-Mart” employed in her game which ensured that any match in which she was involved wouldn‘t be another boring old smash-and-bash slog-fest.

I, for one, was delighted when Martina Hingis' three year injury-enforced absence from the women's tennis scene was over - the "Swiss Miss" was sorely missed by me, make no mistake!!

The dashes of flair, finesse and out-and-out cunning which she produced at the drop of a hat offer a welcome contrast to the power game employed by the Williams sisters, whose crash-bang-wallop approach tends to put watching women's tennis on a par with watching paint dry in the attraction stakes, because the outcome is so predictable.

Granted, the outcome when Martina plays is fairly predictable also, but it's the guile and strategy she employs in overcoming an opponent which makes watching her matches far more appealing than another Williams benefit.

In an ideal world, I'd love to see her teaming up once again with Anna Kournikova - "The Dream Team" touring the world playing exhibition doubles and coaching youngsters!!
