Australian W-League Stars

The Aussies started a national women's league in 2008, imaginatively called the W-League (not to be confused with the North American version).

Needless to say, because of the Aussies' continued failure to qualify for the various FIFA Women's Finals since their switch to Asia, we had to send across the pond a few of our Football Ferns stars from recent Women's World Cup and Olympics Finals campaigns, to ensure there would be at least three top quality players in action each week!!
REBECCA TEGG, REBECCA SMITH and MARLIES OOSTDAM finally met up when their respective teams, Melbourne Victory (blue) and
Newcastle Jets (gold) clashed at Epping Stadium on 6 December 2008, in a match billed as "The Clash of the Kiwis". Melbourne won 1-0.

Marlies remained with Melbourne throughout the 2009 season. In both campaigns, her side just missed out on making the play-offs, despite being odds on to progress going into their final round-robin fixture.
