The top three teams in the Lotto Northern Women's Championship all recorded wins on a gloriously sunny Star Wars Day - May the fourth be with you - but it was leaders Melville United who had to battle all the way for the points at Gower Park.
Birkenhead United made them work all the way for their 1-0 win, with visiting goalkeeper Hannah Halpin being credited with an "oggie" following a shot from Melville's Nyah Nikau just after the half-hour mark.
Onehunga Sports and Franklin United were far less troubled on their respective road trips, Annie Byrne leading the charge with a twenty-minute hat-trick as "The Green Machine" nullified Northern Rovers 7-0 at McFetridge Park.
Amy Wells bagged a brace for Geoff Brogan's charges, for whom former Football Fern Pip Meo and captain Kate Inwood added the extras in the shadows of the full-time whistle to maintain Onehunga's second placing on the table, three points behind Melville, and three points ahead of Franklin United.
Reigning Golden Boot Britney Cunningham-Lee was in rampant form for the visitors as they stormed to a 10-2 win over Onehunga-Mangere United at Mangere Domain, a double hat-trick the order of the day for the prolific striker, three goals in each half.
Her first two goals came inside the opening six minutes, but by half-time, "The Scarlets" had made things interesting, Jasmine Nathan and Jade Naus netting in the shadows of the half-time whistle to trail by the odd goal in five.
There was only one team in it after the interval, however, with five of Franklin's goals coming in the final fifteen minutes. Cunningham-Lee's second treble was supplemented by the efforts of Nikita Lieshout and Georgia Irvine, while a couple of "The Scarlets" were red-faced - both captain Dayna Dalhousie and substitute Rose Pham put though their own net as they attempted in vain to stem the tide.
At Kiwitea Street, midfield general Robyn Wilkinson struck twice in the first fifteen minutes to clinch a 2-0 win for Central United over Cambridge, a result which leaves both teams a point behind Birkenhead and a point ahead of Northern after six rounds of action.
League action takes a break next weekend, with Kate Sheppard Cup action the order of the day. Seven ties take place in the northern region, with Northern and Onehunga doing it all again at McFetridge Park in the only all-Championship tie in the round.
OMU welcome West Auckland to Mangere Domain, while Cambridge make the trip to Olympic Park to take on Bay Olympic. Franklin host Waikato Unicol at the Drury Sports Complex in the other tie involving Championship teams, with Birkenhead having drawn the bye while Melville and Central haven't entered this year's competition.
Other ties in the northern region see Te Awamutu taking on Lakes FC at Te Awamutu Stadium, while Papakura City make a Saturday trip to Rex Morpeth Park, the home of Whakatane Town. And at Bill McKinlay Park, Uni-Mount Bohemian Celtic lock horns with East Coast Bays.
