OMU Off The Bottom With Shock Win
 by Jeremy Ruane
Onehunga-Mangere United climbed off the bottom of the Lotto Northern Women's Championship table on the last Sunday in July thanks to scoring a shock 1-0 win at Northern Rovers.

Ellen Jose's penalty on the stroke of half-time at McFetridge Park secured "The Scarlets"' second win of the campaign, and allowed them to edge ahead of Central United by virtue of having scored more goals than their Central Auckland rivals - their goal difference is identical.

Central were outgunned 3-1 by Onehunga Sports in their Central Auckland derby at Kiwitea Street, where Hayley Bilk put "The Green Machine" on the road to victory just six minutes into the contest.

Hannah Brook doubled their advantage eighteen minutes later, and Kate Inwood made sure of victory early in the second spell before Natasja Van den Berg pulled one back for the home team.

Sports remain eight points adrift of league leaders Melville United, who maintained top spot thanks to a 2-1 win over Franklin United at Gower Park, where Freya Douglas scored a late winner for the home team after the league's leading markswomen, Melville's Laura Bennett and Franklin's Britney Cunningham-Lee, had exchanged goals earlier in the half.

It was honours even at John Kerkhof Park, where Rachel Major's 24th minute penalty for Cambridge was cancelled out by a Nina O'Leary goal thirteen minutes later, an equaliser which allowed Birkenhead United to leapfrog Franklin into third place on the table.

Next Sunday's action sees Melville making the journey to Northern's McFetridge Park home on a day Sports welcome Cambridge to Waikaraka Park. Franklin entertain Central at the Drury Sports Complex, while Birkenhead cross two harbour bridges as they plot a path to Mangere Domain, the home of OMU.
