While attention nationwide this weekend was very much turned towards the Kate Sheppard Cup, a couple of games took place in the Central Region Premier Women's League which saw convincing wins recorded by Petone and Taradale.
Sam Waru bagged a brace of goals as the Hawkes Bay contenders swept aside Moturoa 3-0 at Taradale Park, Nidar Mao Bun chiming in between her team-mate's efforts as "Dale" established their winning scoreline in the first half of Sunday's encounter.
Twenty-four hours earlier, Petone went to town at Victoria University's expense, thrashing the students 8-1 at Boyd Wilson Park, Pepi Olliver-Bell leading the charge with her third hat-trick of the season.
Jessica Owens-Blackmore bagged a brace as the visitors ran riot, with Kate Marra, Kyra Elder and Olivia Gibbs also chiming in before Nicola Baird netted a last-minute consolation goal for the well-beaten home team.
Matariki weekend see tenth round action getting under way on the public holiday with a Friday evening encounter between Wellington United and Waterside Karori at Newtown Park. Saturday's fare sees Petone travelling to Arena Manawatu to take on Marist Palmerston North, while Moturoa welcome the students to Onuku Taipari Domain.
And on Sunday, Miramar Rangers entertain Taradale at Dave Farrington Park on a day Wellington Phoenix and Palmerston North United lock horns at Fraser Park. "The Diamonds" lead the way by five points, with the perfect nine from nine record at the halfway point in the competition.

At the same stage in the Capital Premier Women's League, Seatoun enjoy a five-point lead at the top of the table, but the teams in second to seventh place are covered by just three points, and they all have a game in hand on the league leaders in what is a decidedly competitive league.

South Island Women's League action resumes on Saturday with league leaders Dunedin City Royals heading to Halswell Domain to take on "The Hawks". Coastal Spirit make the trek south to take on Roslyn Wakari at Logan Park, while at Kendall Park, Nomads-Waimakariri United and Canterbury Universities lock horns.
The game of the round takes place on Sunday, with reigning champions Cashmere Technical taking on Otago University at Garrick Memorial Park, a match which will serve as a preview of their upcoming Delivereasy Kate Sheppard Cup quarter-final.
Talking of quarter-finals, there was an upset in the latest Morrison Mitsubishi Reta Fitzpatrick Cup tie as Selwyn United stunned "The Hawks" 2-1 at English Park, thanks to goals in the first half-hour from Chloe Pettigrew and Melanie Shepherd. Ella Hartel's stoppage time strike gave Halswell hope, but it was too little, too late - the top flight team was out!
