Waterfront Notes
Below are a couple of pages from the fabled Manukau Harbour Register of Shipping, the bible which recorded every movement into and out of the port, as well as details about the ships, their Master, where they arrived from and were departing to, the berth occupied, dates and times of movements, including between berths ... a veritable treasure trove of information pertaining to life at the Port of Onehunga.

I have a photo of every pages of these register books from July 1913 to December 1970 - they are held in the Bill Laxon Memorial Library at the NZ Maritime Museum - and records of all movements from 1971 to the conclusion of freight activity at Onehunga in 2017. Sadly, the last register book was discarded when Ports of Auckland were clearing out the Port office following Onehunga's sale to Panuku Development Auckland ... unbelievable, irresponsible, unforgiveable.
Just about every Wednesday during the 1950s and 1960s, the NZ Herald published a column called "Waterfront Notes", a weekly update of goings-on on the waterfront on both sides of town. A kind donor has gifted years worth of these columns to the Bill Laxon Memorial Library.

In the links below you'll find a few extracts from these columns relating to Onehunga activities.
